If you want to read a nice story about the relationship between "management" and players go to www.timesdispatch.com go to the "Flair" or "Flair Archive" section find May 25,2001 and look for "24 musicians". An donor put up $1.5 million to allow the older players that wanted to, the ability to retire. It is a one time offer that is worth up to $100,000 to a few that are most eligable with lesser amounts to others. It is really not management sponsored, but management is letting it go through. Many of the players that are taking it are not the ones on the hot seat, but are the backbone of the symphony. It is just a very nice gesture towards those that would like to take it easier.
In these days of strife in symphony orchestras it is nice to hear the other side.
