This is about the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, which is a very good orchestra for a city the size of Richmond.
Their tubist, Richard Serpa, is a pretty young guy. He is a graduate of both Julliard and the University of Kentucky. I do not know him personally, but he sounds good in concert.
As for the RSO, if you ask me they have questionable hiring practices. In a majority black city, they have only one black member. Also, they do tend to hire younger players. I think Mr. "anon" makes a good point and that there are altier motives here.
