Making the short-action sets, particularly brazing the "knuckles" is a rather difficult high-skill process, which is performed by only a couple of workers at UMI, one very close to retirement. IOW, it's the bottleneck in the 20K production process and adding more demand will just make things worse.

But I'll betcha that the patent's run out on the short-action set, so why doesn't anyone else make 'em?
