Might also be why they like them rotary valves so much--you only need to keep ONE assembly in inventory. Given that you can have a CNC rig churn out a zillion rotors and casings of all the same kind, and you even hook the tubes together with ferrules instead of brazing casing-to-casing, like piston valves do, I wonder why rotary valved tubas aren't half the cost of piston-valved models.

I did have a rotary tuba once that did the casing to casing port braze with little arcs of tubing. It was Italian-made, not Cherman.
