A student of mine who currently owns a St. Pete. has purchased a VMI 2103 and he brought it to me this morning to try it out. What a great BBb tuba! I am very familiar with his St. Pete. and he wanted me to compare the two and tell him what I thought. To my mind, I thought the 2103 sounded like a CC tuba. Also, the intonation was pretty good. The biggest surprise to me was the price. This tuba does not play like a cheap tuba. My opinion is that it outplays the St. Pete. hands down. If you're only looking to spend $3000 on a tuba, the VMI 2103 might be the best thing going. The only complaint I had about the tuba was that it didn't have a 5th valve. If it you can get one with a 5th valve it might be about the best buy out there.
