Arnold Jacobs made several statements that verify this: One that his York gave you 6/4 output with 4/4 input, and that it was an old man's tuba. Even at his level, he was interested in a tuba that made him sound better than he really was.

Of course, different characteristics apply that improvement in ways more suited to some players than others. Pro golfers still like forged clubs to give them more control, because that control is part of their game. Duffers like me want perimeter-weighted golf clubs to limit our lack of control. But both pros and duffers want the equipment to enhance their strengths and hide their weaknesses.
