Many years ago I heard a tuba player from Nebraska (U of, I think) named Rex Conner play a solo piece by Carl Maria Von Weber. The name was Concertina or something like that. It was obviously not written for tuba as we know it, but it must have had some kind of lower brass in mind. At one point, it called for singing into the horn while playing, and thereby triggering a chord of overtones going up several octaves. One of you scholarly whizzes out there can tell us what that technique is formally called. Conner pulled it off very well. Is anyone familiar with the piece? Any recordings? Any other examples of the singing technique?
