Did anyone happen to catch the National Symphony on tv on the 4th? Erich Kunzel conducted and the group did a fine job throughout the show, and on a John Williams tribute. Williams tunes are chop busters for the trumpets especially. Then Williams conducted the "Olympic Fanfare" with the aid of the Herald Trumpets. Almost to the end before the last big blow, at least one of the symphony trumpets came in 2 bars early. He did it right though, it was a huge, beautiful tone. Williams gave him a glance and gave him a big ol' downbeat to come in right. It's good to hear the big boys lay an egg every now and again. It let's you know that big time symphony players aren't perfect, as recordings would have you think. If any one knows who did the deed, pass it along. How do you think the group handles something like that if it was a full time player? A sub would understandably never get hired again. Just curious.
