In these days when orchestras go 2, 3, or 4 auditions(i.e. Atlanta) for brass spots because the auditioners present couldn't "pass muster"(give me a break!), it would seem odd that a counting error while playing for the biggest audience you will ever play for would get "laughed off". I would be mortified.
