"Mortified" derives from having a Scud missle fired at you, being held hostage in a bank robbery, losing a loved one or a friend in an accident, etc. If you get "mortified" by coming in a few bars early - perhaps you should isolate yourself in a bubble the rest of your life. Surely that won't be the worst thing that happenss to you.
