If this is true, then I stand corrected, and I apologize. I'd be interested to know where that particular suffix got its meaning, though. It is certainly not Greek, and I haven't seen a Latin suffix yet (which this looks like) that showed more than its gender and part of speech. I just thought that it meant that the Greek word was Latinized to make it look less foreign. I will admit my ignorance and apologize again for any unintended insult.
