I'm an amateur BBb tuba player in NC looking to upgrade horns. I prefer 4 piston valves and good intonation. I currently play a YBB321S (w/ the flat Eb) in the Triangle Brass Band (their horn). I also do twice/month church gig and some quintet work.
I'm looking at the Brookmays F Schmidt/Meinl Weston 3301S for about $4k. Any comments on this or any other decent quality BBb piston valve tuba in the $4-6k range? If I change my mind in a couple years or switch to CC, will anyone want the Schmidt?
I own a YBB621S (which is for sale) which is a little small for Brass Band. I sold my 15-year old YBB641 rotary as I grew disatisfied w/ the slow valves, even after overhaul.
Thanks for whatever guidance you can provide.
