In Canada, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) often "equalizes" their radio broadcasts. This basically makes the "louds" less loud and the "softs" less soft. I'm told that they do this for the purposes of listening to the broadcast while driving. In a car, a pianissimo can sound like dead air.
