The way I have recieved the story was that Warren got the old Gieb tuba from the NY Phil. and began to work on it. Supposedly it has an Alexander valve sectionin it. Also if you look closely you can see that the fifth valve is under the fourth instead of being on top of the first like most rotory valve horn. I dont know why, thats just how he did it. But he sounded awsome on that horn. Clarity was not even a question but it had some funky intonation that he finally got fed up dealing with.
