You will probably get lots of advise on this, but I think I would have made sure the bell was in dead soft (annealed) condition BEFORE attempting radical crease removal and reshaping. Brass that is 'brickley' from age or from previous repair work can literally fall to pieces during reshaping. Brass instruments are usually annealed several times through the forming process. The final hardness has some affect on the horn's resonance but brass tends to get harder (called work hardening) just from general use. It's pretty difficult to chart hardness conditions after the horn is in service.
