difference close up, but most of the sound is reflected from the ceiling and walls of
my living room.

The brass hardened quite a bit in a few spots. If you try and flex it with a finger at
those spots, the brass moves as a sheet, there is no local give to the metal. I have
some old horns that must be aged hardened by now, but they still have a lot of flex in
the brass, so I suspect that age hardening and work hardening are somewhat different.

After reading the very interesting article by Schilke, the change I observe seems to be
consistent with the physics he was an expert at.
