Question about those "shower heads"...

I think I heard about Arnold Jacob calling them that - those mega heavy, ultra thick, Monette-esque mouthpieces. My question is this - why are they so expensive? To my way of thinking, they're easier to produce and would involve less wear-n-tear on the machining equipment, as they don't require as much miling down. Do mouthpiece makers recycle the brass shavings that are trimmed off in the machining process? Are we paying for more brass, or just being gouged because these mouthpieces are somehow "special"? Norm Pearson? Al Baer? I know you guys worked for Marcinkiewicz - do you have any thoughts on the subject?
