Manufacturers do recycle the chips (shavings), but I pay about $2.00 per pound for surplus brass rod and bar stock, so less is, no doubt, paid for the chips. In other words, there might be a dollar difference in chip recycling prices for a Monette and a Conn Helleberg.
If you ask me, it is a matter of what people are willing to pay for less than $10 worth of brass, suitably shaped.
