Sez Marty, 'It ain't the brass you pay for, its the machines, labor, and skill'

Which reminds me of an old story, much batted around and probably apocryphal.

It goes that the Singer Sewing Machine company ran into a difficulty with one of their production machines, which was enormously large and complex, and their own mechanics could not resolve the problem. So, they asked the fellow who designed the machine to come in an tell them what was wrong. He listened to the machine operate for a few minutes, pulled out a piece of chalk, and made a mark in one particular spot. He said, "Take the machine apart where I marked, and you'll find your problem there."

Sure enough, they found the problem, and the factory manager was so happy that he told the fellow to send him a bill. But the bill he got was a little bigger than he expected--it was for $10,000. He asked for an itemization of the bill, and here's what he got:

"Chalk, 1 piece, $1.00.
Knowing what to do with it, $9999.00"
