So you're using STP as a slide lubricant then? If that's the case, that sounds like a mess waiting to happen...I'd stick to a Lanolin based product, if not Lanolin itself...The Shilke slide stuff is lanolin based or you can goto a pharmacy and buy a tub of it. stp seems thin and will seep down to your valve casings and mix w/ the valve oil and create some crappy muck. i would try soap and water to get any crap off that is already there and then if you use lanolin, use an old rag or even your finger to wipe away the excess. Joe is right, once you get that silver polish rag dirty, it's a dirty rag....but I use the same kind of cloth that he's talking about on my silver horn and it's lasted quite a while.
