Speaking with Peter Hirsbrunner about "F tuba disease" (my term, not his) he told me that it has to do with bore size. olituba is on the money there. the small F's handle this better(my 621 F didn't have the problem at all) But the 621 had a "closer to a euph than a tuba" sound. Other F's all seemed to be prohibitively expensive or unacceptable in the low range. So I switched to E-flat.
