Well, I'll be a college freshman next year, so here is my own plan (as if anybody really wants to know):

I intend on majoring in performance and taking auditions whenever my teahcer feels I'm ready. In the event I don't "win" a job upon graduating, I will go on to get a Masters in conducting as well as getting a teaching certificate. (Let's face it, with the High School teacher shortage of today, an actual degree in music education is no longer mandatory. Plus, band director turn-over rates are quite high these days, so finding a job isn't impossible.) In the event I still don't "win" a job, I'll try to get a doctorate in Arts Administration. If I still don't "win" a job, I'll be able to fall back on my teaching certificate.

Of course, these plans are subject to change. Who knows what will happen for me in the next few years! And whatever my teacher suggests, I will probably do. I'll only be a college freshman next year, so my response probably isn't worth dirt, but I had nothing better to do than post this message. Sorry.

-------> A double major is also a good idea...
