John, You're right of course! My error was trying to read tables without my glasses. For 1.75" pure round copper bar the weight is 9.29 pounds per foot; for C360 brass, it's 8.86 lbs., so the difference is about 5%, not 50%.
You can get brass in hex bar shape also, but I've never had a rear valve cap that required anything more than a tap with a rawhide hammer to remove. Besides, I think the round version might look a little better.
The big question to me is how much is enough? A few ounces? A pound?
