The basic (only?) difference between the two is the leadpipe. The 981 leadpipe is shorter and is more tapered. The 982 leadpipe is longer and fits up higher on the horn. I have a 982 and I had a 981 leadpipe put on it. I think it came back with a better sound but I would have a hard time quantifing that in hard terms. Search the archives for a more detailed explaination. This has been explained before in much better detail than I could ever put it. I think it was money well spent on my horn.
