I bought a Mirafone 183-4 from a fellow last fall and thought the bottom-end sounded a bit stuffy and difficult to center. I fished around and found a TubaChristmas 1985 button stuck inside like a stove-pipe damper.
Just a few weeks ago I found a bottle of Holton trombone oil stuck inside an Olds BBb upright. It had been in storage for many years because it was said to be 'stuffy'. I bought it for scrap and it's turned out to be a really nice horn.
I store a rubber chicken in the bell of one of my King 1235 bell-fronts I use for Dixie gigs. Sometimes I forget to take it out until I've played a few bars of the first tune. There's no mistake... a rubber chicken definetely makes a horn stuffy!
