...less. Ask a few of the people who were in the finals of the BSO audition. At that level, picking a winner can EASILY become a subjective matter. Two people can have equal technical command, flawless intonation, and great style, but one might have a very dark, pillowy sound, while the other has a clearer, more focused sound. Both were as well-prepared as possible, and played great auditions, but only one will get the job...based on the sound that THAT committee was looking for.
