Hi.

Our tax dollars at work again.

I just read this article on cnn.com regarding our Dept of Defense's decision to hire a consulting firm to invent a fake bugle to play taps at funerals. They say that it's in response to a shortage of buglers in the military, and is only used when a real bugler isn't available.

My question: what is the trend of money allocated to music in the military in the past 20 years, and how does it compare to the rate of shortage of live buglers?

I'm just wondering what my colleagues (particularly those in the service bands) think about this.

Here's a link to the story, and another to the ceremonial bugle webpage.

I think Andy Warhol's comment that pop will eat itself is proving to be disturbingly perceptive.
