I have had three teachers in my life, all of which are top professionals. One of them used a tuba stand (and got me started using it). The other two have had serious back problems. Is there a connection? I don't know. I DO know that my back needs all the help it can get. Wimp schmimp.

After 12 years, my DEG Tuba Rest finally succumbed to the combined effects of car heat and the extra duty of holding up a York Master. The foam pad came unstuck from the cradle. So, now I use it at home, and use a K&M version at rehearsals and gigs. The K&M is much more rugged, but it doesn't go as low the the legs stick our farther, putting them in the path of my feet when I'm not careful.
