I agree with your general points, but no company would stay in business very long if they sold their products for true cost. If a retailer pays $4000 for something, they need to get more than $4000 to cover the cost of overhead, such as rent, salaries, electricity, etc. The amount of markup that they would need to make would depend on the volume of products that they sell, but it's usually at least 10% above true cost.

I agree that if someone wants to ask what any one of us may think is too much for a horn it's their business. If you are interested, but aren't willing to pay that much, make a private offer to the seller. If not interested there's no point in saying anything.
