Maybe he has the price set high so a potential buyer and he can bicker down to a mutually agreeable price, which may or may not be around $5,500. Instruments, just like automobiles, can be negotiated upon. Think of it like this, Dillon might buy a new 822 for $4,000 and sell it for $5,000. Then they can negotiate a deal that may or may not bring them as much overhead profit as their initial asking price. Either way Dillon wins as long as they don't go below $4,000, the price they paid Yamaha for the tuba.

I think too often the Tubenet community lashes out at people advertising their horns here for a price they probably intended to haggle over in the first place. It is the responsibility of a good buyer to find out how firm a seller is with their price. If the price isn't reasonable to their pocket, then turn your back. Don't post on the tubenet how OUTRAGEOUSLY high their price is. Unless another potential buyer asks the world wide tubenet for advice then leave, without giving your opinion. I say this because one person's junk is another's gem. And even though 400 people think the tuba is over priced, there is always one person who thinks "asking price" is just fine.
