Wow, I must be growing as a teacher and a person. My first reaction (and I am convinced - not a bad one) was to trash all those snivelling little idiots with the "grow up, get a real job, and dork patrol" posts. But then I read further and saw that our community really does value what we do (as public school teachers). I teach in a very rural, highly disadvantaged system. I see many more of those kids we strain to reach than I do of those we empower to soar. I struggle every day with how long to hold on to the one who misses performances and drags behind but always has a parent excuse. Now I see that I am refusing to let go so that I can help him achieve at least some success in his life. Chuck, keep on with what you love and help our youth learn to love it, as well. I must go now to grade papers and rewrite arrangements for my students... because that is what I do.
