Yes, I agree that doubling requires "maintenance", but no more time PER INSTRUMENT than playing ONE of the two instruments...

...YES, more total time due to working with two separate instruments -

just like the flute/piccolo/clarinet/alto/tenor/bari sextupler needs to spend a lot of time on each of their instruments.
