A point alluded to early on is the fact that "Deutschland Uber Alles" is a melody composed by Hayden. What has not pointed out is that, before Hitler twisted it's meaning, the term "Deutshcland Uber Alles" refered to the unification of many old, independant kingdoms into one country to be called Germany. I doubt that many people in the stadium even recognized the song anyway. My take on what makes this a problem is twofold. First, the recognization of WWII countries to include our then enemies and second, the use of the Nazi flag. It would have been possible to bypass the first problem by pointing out that former foes have become allies and that our country moves forward without rancor to things of the past. However, the Nazi flag has no redeeming qualities and that should have been obvious from the very beginning.
