If there were no current anti-rotary-valveset bias (which there absolutely is) and all tuba players liked the type of sound and response that I happen to like, Hirbrunner would sell very few 4/4 piston tubas.

Miraphone makes great rotary tubas (186 - 188) and offers them for amazing prices - unmatched intonation.

The HB-2 is better than both the 186 and 188 in sound and response - and I've owned both a 186 and a 188 - ' only played HB-2 rotary tubas occasionally, but those brief trials of various HB2 tubas told the story. If one was priced low enough, I'd EVEN consider buying an old HB2 with the "nightmare" ( truly a nightmare) plastic valves - because of the tremendous sound and response of the HB2 4/4 rotary tuba.

Parethetically, I think slapping a Nirschl piston valveset on this HB 4/4 body (in any mouthpipe configuration) screws up this instrument badly.
