I personaly don't own a Miraphone 181, but I do play an Alexander F that is comperable in size and sound. I played it with a PT-64 for a while and it sounded ok, but it wasn't the sound I was looking for. It sounded to much like a small CC tuba for my taste.

I tried a Floyed Cooley Helleberg and all I can say is WOW. The tone changed quite a lot. It brightened the horn up, and brought the overtones out a lot more. Definately the rich German sound I have always had in mind for an F tuba. You can check out the Floyd Cooley Helleberg on Mr. Cooley's web site. I don't have the address right here, but if you click on his picture under the Musicians tab on the top of the page it will take you there.
