I'm just starting to work on playing false tones. I've got a ways to go - as you said big change in tone. Because the 4th valve combinations are so sharp below E nat. I've thought about doing some slide movin' and using the fingerings a half step off. Well, last week my teacher took the horn for a low range spin. His tone did not change from above F to well below F. He said the false tones were amazing. They sounded pretty good to me too. So I know it's me, not the horn. My teacher said, skip the 4th valve combinations, use false tones. So now I've got some more work ahead of me.
