Oh, I agree about the Willson, except that I seem to be able to get all sorts of sound out of it (good sound? I didn't claim that). The ergonomics are not wonderful--I can't find any comfortable place for my left hand. I've never played the 1291, and they are still rather new. I have played a 191, and liked it, but it didn't play like any American-style tuba I've ever tried. It's just too free-blowing. With a little smaller bore, the 1291 might provide that nice balance of resistance and warmth that makes it seem like a lot coming out for a little going in.

There are some wonderful BBb tubas on the market, but not so many in the large sizes of the fat-belled American vintage design. I mentioned the Willson because it's the only new front-action piston almost-6/4 BBb tuba on the market.
