The James Barnes concerto is really a great piece of music. I, however, wouldn't touch it because of that cadenza in the first movement. There is the concerto by bruce boroughton (sp?) which seems to be popular with my All-state colleagues these days. I think it's considered grade 5 or 6 stuff, but (in a technical sense) I've never really seen what's so hard about it. The gregson concerto is also a great piece of music, but I've never played it. If you want to really work up a beast, work on the Vaughn (sp?) Williams concerto. That solo is hard as nails. Good luck,
