If you aren't strong enough to "lip" down notes that may be sharp (particularly higher notes - G up in the staff to middle C), you might just stay with the standard Miraphone model 186 CC. They seem to be making these better and better, and the intonation problems are few. ' not as much fatness of sound in a Miraphone as Mr. Zerkels's very good recommendation of the Rudy Meinl 4/4 CC, but if you are not the strongest player (yet), the Miraphone CC might be a friendlier tuba for you (for now).

I moved from a Miraphone 188 (similar to the 186, but a fatter body) to a Rudy Meinl 4/4 about 15 years ago because of the Rudy Meinl 4/4 tone quality, but I knew good and well what the intonation "trade-offs" were when I did it.
