Main slide out about 2" is what I needed, but I know someone how had it out about 3/8" and did great.
After tuning the valve slides (which all I did was 3rd) I had no problems with intonation what so ever (except for B natural, but is that ever in tune?) My mouthpiece what a Conn Helleberg. I was told it wasn't a good match for the horn, but I had no problems.
