Dear Fellow Tubenetters - first post, no flamethrowers please :)

I have the oportunity to purchase a Holton Eb Sousaphone - at least I believe it is a Eb. The sousaphone says Frank Holton & Co., Elkhorn Wisconsin USA, and on the bell ring (where it connects to the horn) it has the number 77 - could this be the model number? The bell itself is 24 inches in diameter. The serial # is 202607 (circa 1949?).

My question to you sousa experts out there (Joe S.?) - is it possible to find a gooseneck to fit this model horn. The neck receiver diameter is approximately .500 and .600 inches (I do not have a caliper, but very small compared to a Conn Bb). Can a neck be had for this instrument? Do they still make necks to fit this horn, or will I have to hope someone can locate one in their attic or junk drawer? Also, will this horn require a small set of bits and a mouthpiece with a tiny shank?

Thank you for your replies, and thank you Sean for this valuable resource to the Tuba Community!

Carlos F.
