I agree with the comments made here in favor of MiniDisc. I purchased one recently, and I am very pleased with it. Theory says that you loose a little bit in sound quality because of the digital compression it uses. My wife says it sounds better than a CD, although I really can't tell any difference.
I am also familiar with DAT recorders since we used them at the public radio station I used to work at. Sound quality is great with DAT, but I prefer MD because of convenience, direct access, and great editing features. You can't do a whole lot of editing on a DAT.
