I once had a similar problem, but maybe with a different cause. Some conductors (or oboists) LOVE to tune sharp. I have had the main slide on two of my tubas shortened about 3/4" on each side. A good repairman should be able to do this with no problem. They usually remove the tubes and cut them down on a lathe. I have heard that Arnold Jacobs once had a similar problem, but Renoyld Schilke quickly fixed it with a hacksaw. Unless you are are as gifted as Schilke was, go to the repairman.
