A friend of mine is trying out Meinl Weston 2145s and has a quirky problem. She can't get the pitch UP to where it needs to be. It always sits at about 15 to 20 cents flat. This is the case on every 2145 she tries. She's tried a BUNCH of different mouthpieces to no avail (somewhere between 20 and 30). Then this weekend we consulted an "expert" and he indicated that the reason for this was that the MPC shank for this particular instrument needs to be quite large and suggested getting a rather expensive MPC to solve this problem.

We ended up taking the middle ground for the time being and she is trying a large shank PT mouthpiece. This seems to alleviate some of the problems, but I'm wondering what MPCs are recommended, what the effects of using these MPCs is compared to the small shank cousins, and if there is any way to get the horn up to pitch.

Thanks in advance for the advice and I'll relay it to her.

Dan
