I'd like to revisit the Besson 983.I own what's basically a 981 (larger bell and leadpipe added later). I'm in my 40's, and am having back and shoulder problems. I've always found the EE-tuba design to be an ergonomic nightmare. Wouldn't the 983 be better in this regard? Does anyone know where I could try one on the west coast? Someone out there implied that the 983 had a decent low end (?). Also, has anybody found a stand that really works on these upright tubas. I always feel as though the 981 wants to eventually fall over, and I find it fatiguing to play it through an entire quintet gig. However, I find the EE-flats to be the safest thing to drag to quintet gigs, when god knows what people are going to throw your way. Last question: I'm looking for a Helleberg that has a rim more like the original ones. I've never liked the feel of the Conn 7B. Has anyone tried Floyd's model? What about the fancy Marcinkowicz ones?
