This is a great little horn. But you can get a massive sound out of it, with out it breaking up, if you need to. As for the lead pipe, I go between this horn and a 994 Sovereign BBb, where the Mpiece is about 10cm further away from the bell than the 983 and have no problem. With any tuba, I just stick it to my face and blow.

If you're going from the 981/2 to the 983, depending on how you use your left arm, you might have a sore shoulder for a couple of days. This is from adjusting the slides as you play.

As for the Meinl Weston 2141, it's too big for it's own good. It's got many intonation problems and as it's a new venture from Melton will take a while to become an acceptable horn. From my sources, the 983 is about $2000 cheaper than the 2141.
