A little while ago, I read in a brass method book that to form a correct embouchure, you must keep your chin flat. I've never heard of this until I read the book, and then I heard a band director (former tuba player) yell at the brass section for not keeping their chin flat. I tried it, and it only seem to make my tone tense, and to me, the sound is less desirable for the tuba or euphonium. Maybe, I have been playing the tuba wrong for 20 years!

So, this started to make me wonder if you guys have heard of this, or consciencely keep chin flat or not flat. Why or why not?

Thanks for your opinion,
