Hello out there!

I wanted to know, for the or upper level players proffessionals out there, when did you start to really hit it off on the tuba? When did you start to become good? Did you start to become good in high school, or before that? Were you the top of the class? When did you know that you wanted to be proffesional? And does having a huge sound very early mean anything, especially to judges? What if their tecnique isn't so good? I ask these wuestions because there is one person in my class with a hugh sound and okay tecnique. He wins all the contests. He got first chair All-District and All-Region. He has climbed up to first chair too. I think that the judges, unable to see him, are just impressed by his huge sound. I thought that I was pretty good, being in the top band and usally first chair. Do you think that my sound will too grow and I will hit it off later? I know that this is a lot of questions, but I really need some answers.

Thanks for any help and advice you can give.
