I made the best experiences with "NEVR DULL" wadding polish (which is without any abrasive contents) as for cleaning. As for a good prophylacticum after cleaning, I use BLUE CORAL POLISH LONG DUREE. It's the latest and most advanced car wax polish and wax, being developed in the space lab, also applicable to metal surfaces.
However, if you want to go for 100% sure, you should wear thin cotton gloves (no wool, and not at all latex or rubber!). Furthermore, the main external enemies towards silver or brass finish: sulfur containing food (e.g. eggs), acid and constant humid environment.
Besides all this, you should make up your mind, if you find your tuba worthy enough to get a lacquer coat treatment after professional polishing. Then you can forget about all these troubles.
Good luck,
Volker
