Anything is possible with these instruments. The body of the instrument is probably lacquered (with something, anyway), but the spatulas may be nickel-plated (or even solid nickel-silver) and left as-is. They would tarnish almost immediately if that were the case. At worst, though, they'll be a dull gray. They won't turn black like silver.
